Your vision plan should cover an annual comprehensive eye exam, frames or contacts, and lens enhancements. Other things to consider are how often you want new glasses and your overall frame allowance. Some plans may highlight low rates, but provide an overall low frame allowance, or don’t provide a lot of savings on lens enhancements (where costs can really add up). Plus, you’ll want to make sure the doctor network includes convenient locations. Read the plan details to ensure you’re getting the right plan for your needs.
A copay is the fixed amount paid by you to the doctor’s office when you visit an eye doctor. Take an eye exam for example; once you pay the exam copay, your plan will pay for the remainder of whatever your doctor charges for an exam. Copays are usually due to the doctor’s office at the time you receive services.
A frame allowance is the amount covered by your insurance for your frames or for lens enhancements. You can use this toward any frame brands carried by your VSP doctor. If you select frames that are more than the allowance covers, you only pay the difference.
A lens enhancement is an added feature to the lenses in your glasses that is intended to improve the quality of your experience with your prescription glasses. They include things like scratch resistance and anti-glare and you may decide on additional lens enhancements that better meets the needs of your eyes. Your eye doctor can advise if a certain lens enhancement would be good with your prescription.
Some vision plans may cover lens enhancements for a small co-pay. Your eye doctor can help you choose the lens enhancements that are right for you and covered by your plan.
A comprehensive eye exam includes numerous tests to evaluate your vision, eye health, and screen for health conditions such as diabetes and high cholesterol. You can also receive a prescription for corrective lenses. A vision screening will only check for potential vision problems and any concerns will usually be referred to an eye doctor.
A vision plan will help you take care of your eyes and save you money at the same time. But vision insurance is more than that. Taking good care of your vision is important to your overall health. During your eye exam, the doctor can detect early signs of serious general health conditions so you can manage them before they become more difficult problems. This can include things like diabetes and high blood pressure.
VSP was founded in 1955 and is the largest vision insurance provider in the nation. VSP Individual Vision Plans were created as a division of VSP for people to maintain access to vision care when they don’t have coverage through an employer-sponsored plan.
You can choose to enroll in a different plan in the first 30-days after enrollment if you have not received any services or filed any claims.

Most vision plans provide access to preventative eye exams and corrective eyewear. Your regular health insurance plan may cover health costs if you injure your eyes in an accident or have a health condition that affects your vision.
Most health insurance plans do not cover LASIK as it is an elective surgery. However, VSP Vision Care Members are eligible to save on LASIK procedures through Exclusive Member Extras.
Routine vision exams can help detect health conditions such as diabetes and are also important for monitoring changes in vision. In addition to coverage for eye exams, VSP members also have access to Exclusive Member Extras which provides savings and resources for diabetes-related services.

Yes. You’ll get 20% savings on any additional glasses or sunglasses, including lens enhancements, from a VSP network doctor within 12 months of your last WellVision Exam®.
The VSP Individual Vision Plan can only be applied towards prescription glasses and sunglasses. However, you can get an additional 20% off an additional pair of glasses and apply that to regular sunglasses.
Our vision plans provide savings on many lens enhancements: <div class="card card-body ml-3 no-border"> <ul> <li class="mb-2"><strong>Scratch-resistant coating</strong> – A clear coating that is less likely to scratch than uncoated lenses.</li> <li class="mb-2"><strong>Anti-glare (anti-reflective) coating</strong> – A coating that increases a lens’s light transmission. Your allowance depends on which plan you choose. Most plans have a contacts allowance to use towards contact lenses. And as a VSP member, you’ll have access to additional savings and discounts on contact lenses through our Exclusive Member Extras.
An eye exam will evaluate your vision and help detect health conditions such as glaucoma or diabetes. A contact lens fitting and evaluation will ensure the contacts fit properly and do not harm the eyes.
To make the most of your plan benefits, members can get contacts at their VSP network doctor or online at <a href="https://www.eyeconic.com/" target="_blank">Eyeconic<sup>®</sup></a>, where you can easily connect your benefits to receive additional savings.
It's easy to maximize your benefits to get both. If you plan to get glasses and contacts in the same year, use your plan coverage to get your glasses first, then apply the discount on your contact fitting and evaluation to maximize your savings. From then on, you can use the plan allowance the enxt year to get glasses, then the following year to get contacts. You can keep alternating between glasses and contacts year-over-year to see your very best.
Using an Individual Vision Plan is easy. First, pick the plan that’s right for you and the payment option that best fits your needs. Then, visit an eye doctor, (going in-network will help you get the most from your benefits) to receive a comprehensive eye exam. If corrective vision is needed, your eye doctor can help pick glasses or contacts to best fit your style. You pay your copay at the doctor’s office along with any options outside of your plan coverage, and the doctor will take care of processing your benefit claims.
If you’d like to include your spouse or family members, please choose a two-person or Family Plan when you enroll. You can also buy an individual plan for a friend or family member who doesn’t have vision coverage.
While VSP Vision Care does not coordinate benefits with other medical plans or benefits, you can use the plan in addition to your other health plans.
Making an appointment is easy. Go to <a href="http://www.vspdirect.com/find-a-doctor">Find a Doctor</a> and pick any doctor you’d like. Tell them you have VSP and they’ll take care of the rest. To get the most out of your benefits, visit a Premier Program practice.
When you visit a VSP network doctor, there are no claim forms to submit. If you chose to see an out-of-network provider, you may incur higher out of pocket costs and will have to submit a claim form and include any itemized receipts.
Large chain optical centers such as Costco, Sears, Walmart, Cohen’s, etc. are not in-network for plans sold on this site. Please be aware if you choose to go to an out-of-network provider, you’ll have to submit the claims yourself and will be reimbursed at lesser out-of-network coverage amounts.
There are different copays and coverage options depending on the plan you choose. If a lens enhancement isn’t covered with a copay, you’ll still receive 20% savings on that option at the eye doctor’s office. After you enroll, you can start using your benefits immediately!
Yes. You can defer the start of your plan up to six months when you enroll online. If you’d like to start your plan later than six months, please call us at <strong>800.785.0699</strong> for assistance.
You can choose to pay the annual premium in one payment or in twelve (12) monthly installments, regardless of when benefits are utilized. The monthly payment option is a 1-year contract.
Yes. If you choose to make monthly installments you can pick your billing date to occur on the first, fifth, tenth, fifteenth or twentieth of each month.
Some VSP Individual Vision Plans are available to members of the Healthy Vision Association (HVA) which has a membership fee. As a member of the HVA, you’ll have access to health and wellness discounts and savings.
You’ll need to enroll in a plan and pay the first monthly installment, or the annual fee, before you can use the plan. Please note, monthly installments are billed one month in advance. If you choose the same month effective date, your first payment will cover two installment periods, the current month and the next month, simultaneously. Your next payment will be withdrawn the following month on or around the reoccurring auto-payment date you select.
While we don’t offer senior discounts, VSP Individual Vision Plans start as low as $13 a month and there are multiple options to choose from to fit your budget. Continuing your coverage is easy. Each year, your plan will automatically renew (we'll charge the same credit card you provide us during your initial enrollment). Yes, but if you use your plan out-of-network, you may incur higher out of pocket costs and you’ll need to complete a claim form and include any itemized receipts. Out-of-network coverage is not available in Massachusetts and Washington, and coverage varies in Maryland.

With out-of-network providers, you may only be reimbursed a portion of your out-of-pocket cost.

Most Medicare plans don’t offer comprehensive routine vision care. VSP Individual Vision Plans provide full-service plans for eye exams, glasses and lens enhancements, or contacts.
VSP Vision Care does not coordinate benefits with Medicare. In other words, you can't use $150 of frame allowance from a VSP plan and add $50 of allowance from a Medicare plan to get a $200 frame fully covered. You would use one plan's benefit or the other. Check your Medicare plan to see if your vision care needs are covered.
Because in many cases Medicare plans (like Original Medicare) do not provide comprehensive vision coverage. If you have a Medicare plan that doesn’t provide comprehensive vision coverage, you can supplement it with a VSP Individual Vision Plan. And if you’re turning 65 this year and are looking for a Medicare plan, know that you can enroll in a VSP Individual Vision Plan in addition to your original Medicare coverage to make sure your eyes stay healthy.

Personal information collected and how it is used:
VSP collects anonymous, non-personal information about users of this site through temporary session cookies. VSP responds to emails, electronic messages, and other communications as soon as reasonably practical. VSP's response time shall not exceed any maximum time period that may be specified by law.

You further agree that monetary damages for Abusive Use of the Site are difficult to ascertain and that proof of monetary damages for Abusive Use would be costly and inconvenient to calculate. Accordingly, you agree that injunctive or other equitable relief is warranted for Abusive Use. Therefore, you agree that if you, or others act in concert with you, alone or collectively request more than 100 pages of content from the Site in any twenty-four hour period, you, and those acting in concert with you, may be held jointly and severally liable for reasonable attorney's fees, expert witness fees and costs associated with injunctive or other equitable relief.

How VSP Uses and Discloses Information About You

in writing to maintain the privacy of Protected Health Information as required by law.

VSP will not use or disclose your Protected Health Information for purposes other than those
described in this notice. If it becomes necessary to disclose any of your Protected Health
Information for other reasons, VSP will request your written authorization. VSP will obtain your
authorization for any sale of Protected Health Information, or to use or disclose your Protected
Health Information for marketing.
Revoking Authorization
If you provide written authorization, you may revoke it at any time in writing, except to the
extent that VSP has relied upon the authorization prior to its being revoked.

VSP may disclose your Protected Health Information to a family member, friend, or other person

Review Your Protected Health Information
You have a right to inspect and obtain a copy of your Protected Health Information.
Important : If you feel your Protected Health Information is incomplete or incorrect, you have the right to request that it be amended.
Request to Restrict Your Protected Health Information
You can request restrictions on the use and disclosure of your Protected Health Information. VSP
is not required to agree to a requested restriction.
Example : If a restriction request prevents us from providing service to you or from performing payment related functions, we will not be able to agree to the request.
Confidential Communication
When necessary, VSP may seek to contact you by calling you at your home or by sending mailings
containing your Protected Health Information to your home. If you feel that such communications
could compromise your safety, you may request in writing an alternate communication method and/or
location.
Important : VSP may require that a request contain a statement that disclosure of all or part of the information to which the request pertains could endanger the individual, and VSP may, if and to the extent that applicable law allows, request payment for this service.
Examples : The patient may decide, for his or her safety, to have correspondence containing his or her Protected Health Information sent somewhere other than to his or her home, or to have the information sent via fax rather than mailed.
Accounting of Disclosures
If a disclosure of your Protected Health Information was made for a reason other than treatment,
payment or health care operations, you have a right to receive an accounting of the disclosure.
Important : If the disclosure was made to you, VSP will not provide an accounting.

You can view and print a copy of this Notice of Privacy Practices through vsp.com. You may also
request a copy from your Benefit Administrator, or you may request a paper copy from VSP.
Complaints
If you believe that your privacy rights have been violated, you may submit a complaint to VSP or
to the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services at any time. VSP will not retaliate against you
for filing a complaint. You may file a complaint with VSP through vsp.com, or by calling our Member
Services Department at 800.785.0699.
